Motorists Reminded to Plan A Ride This Holiday Season

The Kentucky Office of Highway Safety (KOHS) and Kentucky State Police (KSP) are reminding motorists traveling over the Christmas and New Year holiday to be responsible behind the wheel as the ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ increased enforcement campaign continues through January 1, 2020.

Officials say images of Santa with the slogan, “He sees you when you’re drinking,” are at gas stations and bars/restaurants in more than 60 cities throughout Kentucky with higher-than-average drunken driving-related crashes. In addition, digital and social media ads will feature the iconic figure.

KSP Sergeant Josh Lawson says while they always patrol for impaired drivers, they will have extra troopers on the road as motorists travel to and from their Christmas and New Year’s celebrations. He adds make no mistake, if you are caught driving impaired, you will be arrested. Lawson urges everyone to make a plan for a designated driver before the party begins.

In Kentucky, officials report 22 drunken driving deaths occurred during the Christmas and New Year’s over the last five years.
