Beshear Canceling Medicaid Managing Care Contracts And Rebidding

Governor Andy Beshear announced Monday afternoon that the managed care organization contracts awarded by the last administration will be canceled and rebid.

At a news conference, Beshear said the people of Kentucky should have confidence in the process that ultimately awarded over $8 billion in those contracts. He added there were several driving concerns that led him to the decision to cancel the contracts.

Beshear also noted another significant change is his recent repeal of the Medicaid waiver.

He said they will rebid on an accelerated time-table.

He added his commitment is to make sure once the new contracts are improved there is a smooth transition.

Beshear stated he wants to make it clear this decision has nothing to do with who won and who lost in the initial process. He noted the rebidding will be fair and no one is guaranteed a contract. Beshear added his job is to do his best to provide high-quality health care to the people of Kentucky and that is what he is focused on.
