Police: Man Charged After Leaving His Child At A Hopkinsville Store

A Hopkinsville man was charged with first-degree wanton endangerment and possession of drugs after he reportedly left his child with an employee at Walmart Thursday afternoon.

Hopkinsville Police say 34-year-old James Dethrow entered the Walmart on Clinic Drive and gave his 2 and a half-year-old child to a store employee and walked away.

The employee reportedly contacted police after Dethrow did not return for over 30 minutes when police made contact with Dethrow he was unsteady on his feet and confused.

Dethrow allegedly told police his child was with his wife in the parking lot but police say his wife didn’t come with them to Walmart.

In his vehicle, police reportedly found marijuana in the cup holder and 10 Xanax pills in a baggie in his pocket.

He is charged with possession of marijuana, third-degree possession of a controlled substance, first-degree wanton endangerment, and public intoxication.
