Unemployment rates fell in three counties in the Pennyrile District between October 2018 and October 2019, rose in five counties and stayed the same in Hopkins County at 3.9%, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics.
During this time period, jobless rates fell in Crittenden County from 4.4 percent to 3.7 percent, as well as Livingston County from 5.0 percent to 4.4 percent, and Lyon County from 4.7 percent to 4.1 percent.
In Christian County, the unemployment rate rose and was the highest unemployment rate in the Pennyrile District in October at 5.9 percent, up from 4.7 percent in October of last year, while Muhlenberg County posted the second-highest jobless rate in the Pennyrile at 5.7 percent, up slightly from 5.6 percent.
In Caldwell County, the unemployment rate rose to 4.4 percent from 4.0 percent. It also rose in Trigg County to 4.4 percent from 3.9 percent, and in Todd County to 4.2 percent from 3.5 percent.
Statewide, the jobless rate fell in 85 counties during this time period, rose in 24 and stayed the same in eleven counties.
Fayette and Oldham counties recorded the lowest jobless rates in the Commonwealth at 2.8 percent, while Magoffin County recorded the state’s highest unemployment rate at 10.9 percent.
Unemployment statistics are based on estimates and are compiled to measure trends rather than actually to count people working. They do not include unemployed Kentuckians who have not looked for employment within the past four weeks.
Kentucky’s jobless rate was 3.7 percent compared to the U.S. unemployment rate of 3.3 percent.
