Thorpe Hired As New Trigg County Schools Superintendent

Trigg County Public Schools will have a new superintendent effective January 1, 2020.

After a six-minute executive session during a special called meeting Thursday morning, board of education members voted unanimously to hire Marshall County Director of Pupil Personnel Bill Thorpe to serve as the leader of the district.

Thorpe says he has served in his current position for three years and has worked in other aspects in area school districts.

Thorpe notes he has multiple short-term goals when he assumes his position.

The new superintendent adds he has always heard great things about Trigg County and is excited to begin the job.

Board chair Jo Alyce Harper says the board is very excited to work with Thorpe.

Harper adds she thinks Thrope will really buy into the Trigg County Schools system and be respected in the school community.

Interim Superintendent Tim McGinnis, who will continue to work in the district through December 31, says it was good to come back and work in the district.

McGinnis accepted the Interim Superintendent position in July after former Superintendent Travis Hamby left the district on June 30 to work with the Allen County School District.

Board members worked with Kentucky School Board Association Field Consultant Tim Eaton to look for the new Superintendent.

A community meet and greet with Thorpe will be held at the Trigg County Board of Education office on Tuesday afternoon, December 3 from 4:00 until 6:00.
