First District Congressman James Comer says he voted against an impeachment inquiry Thursday involving President Donald Trump that was approved by the House of Representatives.
Fox News reports a sharply divided House voted to approve a resolution by a vote of 232-196. The approval will now set rules for the impeachment inquiry into President Trump.
Comer tells the News Edge it is weird the vote happened nearly three weeks after the whole ordeal started.
Comer adds the American people should be the deciding factor in the issue.
Fox News adds the resolution that passed will put lawmakers on record over the contentious process while setting the stage for proceedings to move into the public eye after weeks of closed-door depositions. No Republicans voted for the measure, while two Democrats also cast votes against it.
Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi announced the Trump impeachment inquiry on September 24. At that time, Pelosi said the president must be held accountable for his betrayal of to his oath of office, national security, and the integrity of our elections.
