Hopkinsville Community College President Dr. Alissa Young has been named the 2019 Pacesetter by the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) for District 2. The District is comprised of community colleges from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, and the Bahamas.

HCC officials say the Pacesetter of the Year Award recognizes a chief executive officer at a two-year community or technical college or district office who has demonstrated leadership and support in the area of college community and marketing with emphasis placed on accomplishments within the past year.

At a luncheon at the District 2 conference in Asheville, North Carolina Tuesday, Dr. Young said it’s an honor for her to be named the District 2 Pacesetter of the Year. Because of her background in communications and teaching it for several years, Young noted she has a keen understanding of its importance. She added noted they have been able to make modest improvements in the marketing and communications area over the last year that have had a positive impact.

The Pacesetter Award is presented annually in each of NCMPR’s seven districts, and district winners are then considered for a national award. Officials say Dr. Young now qualifies to be considered for the 2020 National Pacesetter Award, which will be announced at the national conference in Orlando, Florida in March.
