Groundbreaking Held For 2nd Phase Of Hopkinsville Rail Trail

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday afternoon for the second phase of the Hopkinsville Greenway Rail Trail.

Mayor Carter Hendricks says the new section of the trail will be 1.7 miles and will extend from Pardue Lane to just north of Eagle Way Bypass.

The project will also include a pedestrian bridge that will cross a portion of Country Club Lane and Lafayette Road. Hendricks notes there will also be a project done to improve the landscape that will be under the bridge at the intersection of those two roads.

Project supporter April Cotthoff notes the rail trail truly brings the community together.

Cotthoff adds the gift of the trail is that you need no equipment, no membership, and all ages and races are welcome to use it.

Councilmember Wendell Lynch says this project has taken partnerships and patience to get this far.

The over $4.6-million project is supported by two grants for a total of over $800,000.

The contractor of the project is Scott & Murphy Inc., which built the first phase of the trail.

Lee Davidson, Executive Vice President of Lōse Design says the second phase will take about ten months to complete.
