CCPS Board Approves Final Budget For 2019-2020 School Year

Christian County school board members Thursday night approved the final working budget of $94.1 million for the 2019-2020 school year and recognized the district’s Family Resource Youth Service Center Directors.

Director of Business Jessica Darnell said the majority of expenditures are for instruction, salaries, and benefits.

Superintendent Mary Ann Gemmill stated the deadline to submit the final working budget to the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) is September 30th. She noted they are hoping KDE approves the budget without any changes.

In other action, the board unanimously approved the revised BG-1 for the South Christian Elementary School roofing project for over $630,000.

Board members recognized eleven Family Resource Youth Service Center Directors in the district. Ron Gager, of Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School, explained their mission which is breaking down barriers of learning for children by using direct resources and linking them to resources in the community.

He noted they also collaborate on several programs, including The World’s Greatest Baby Shower, a Child Abuse Prevention Poster and Poem Contest, the Parent Cafe, and the Military Gala.

The next school board meeting will be held Thursday evening, October 17, at 6:00 in the Board Room at the Central Office located on Glass Avenue.
