Trigg School Board Approves 2-Cent Per $100 Tax Increase

The Trigg County Board of Education voted to take the 4% tax revenue increase during Thursday evening’s meeting.

Before approving the two-cent per $100 tax increase for all Trigg County residents for real and personal property, board members heard concerns from six concerned residents.

Amanda Oliver, a concerned parent who has three children in the district, says she knows many families struggle like hers because they are a single income family.

She adds other recent tax increases have caused a burden on her family.

High school English teacher Christina Ethridge says the needs are great within the school district. While understanding that, she worries about her tenants, as she owns several rental properties in the county.

After hearing from the public and hearing a presentation from school Finance Officer Holly Greene, board members shared their feelings on the possible tax increase.

Clara Beth-Hyde abstained herself from voting on anything concerning the taxes.

After all, was said and done, board members voted 4-0 to increase the tax rate to 55.1-cents per $100 for real and personal property.

In other action, board members voted to cancel the Thursday, September 26 regular meeting, as several board members were going to be absent from the meeting.
