Dogs Rescued From Trigg County Finding Loving Homes

As of noon Thursday, over half of the 38 dogs removed from a Trigg County breeder after they were reportedly found living in unsanitary conditions have new homes.

Christian County Animal Shelter Director Irene Grace tells the News Edge the parking lot was full when they opened at 10:30 Thursday morning with over half of the 38 dogs adopted, thus far.

She adds Wednesday she felt a range of emotions when the dogs were brought to the shelter.

The dogs were kept in cages and not socialized, but Grace says they are starting to progress.

She indicates the animal shelter received lots of food donations Wednesday. Right now, Grace says what they really need most is volunteers to spend time with the dogs and help socialize them.

Trigg County Animal Control Officer Torrie Davis and some volunteers removed the 38 dogs from a home located off of Rockcastle Road Wednesday afternoon. Davis said she received an anonymous tip and conducted an investigation and found the dogs were living in unsanitary conditions. The Trigg County Sheriff’s Office charged the breeder, Linda Compton, with 43 counts of second-degree cruelty to animals and 43 violations of dogs to be vaccinated against rabies.

If you are interested in adopting one of the dogs, the animal shelter will be open Friday from 10:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and closed Saturday through Monday for the Labor Day holiday weekend. The shelter will reopen Tuesday morning.
