The Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library has announced Imagination Library Coordinator Bonnie Lynch is retiring at the end of the year.
Library officials say Lynch has been with the Imagination Library, first as a dedicated volunteer and then as the coordinator. She taught language arts, special education and reading for 36 years at Mahaffey Middle School at Fort Campbell and retired in 2010. Lynch was one of the early advocates for the Imagination Library and library officials say she was instrumental in establishing the program in the nine communities throughout Christian County and she has been the foundation of the program’s growth.
Since the inception of the Imagination Library Program seven years ago, officials note over 235,000 books have been mailed to children throughout the county, and nearly 12,000 children in the county have been enrolled in the program since 2012.
The Dolly Parton Imagination Library is a free program for any child from birth to 5 years old. Children enrolled in the program is provided an age-appropriate book that is delivered to the child’s home each month.
Executive Director DeeAnna Sova expresses her best wishes for Lynch and thanked her for the success they have seen with the program. She says an appreciation dinner will be scheduled later in the year.
Lynch’s retirement is effective December 31st.
