Inaugural Hoptown Half and 5K Kicking Off in September

Hopkinsville is ready to run this fall when the first-ever Hoptown Half Marathon and 5K takes off in downtown.

The event will feature a timed half marathon and 5K road race. Those who complete either race will be awarded a custom-designed medal and shirt. The proceeds will benefit United Way of the Pennyrile, a charitable organization that works with 20 agencies spanning four counties.

Race Director Korey Raymond spoke about the upcoming races during a Rotary Club meeting. She says the race course will take runners through the streets of both residential neighborhoods and downtown Hopkinsville.

She adds you can still participate even if running isn’t your expertise.

The festivities will kick off with a race expo on September 27th that is open to the general public.

Raymond adds they currently have just over 300 runners signed up but project there will be close to 1,250 by race day. The runners currently signed up come from 11 different states across the country.Race day will also feature other events such as the Hoptown Harvest Fest, Bourbon Mashoree, and Military Affairs Committee Chili Cook-off for everyone to enjoy post-race.
