Liquor By The Drink Approved For Sunday Sales At Distilleries

Christian County Fiscal Court magistrates approved the second reading of an amended ordinance pertaining to Sunday liquor by the drink sales at distilleries and heard an update regarding the museum renovation project.

By a 5-3 vote, magistrates approved the distillery tourism ordinance which County Attorney John Soyars explains allows the two distilleries in the county to sell alcohol beverages by the drink during a specified time on Sundays.

Magistrates Mark Cansler, Rich Liebe, and Terry Bowman cast the nay votes. After the ordinance passed, Judge-Executive Steve Tribble advised Peg Hays of Casey Jones Distillery and Merry Beth Tomaszewski of MB Roland Distillery, who were in the audience, the amended ordinance would not become law until after it was published in the newspaper.
In other business, Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County Executive Director Alissa Keller provided an update on the renovation project and says the contractor’s work is almost 50 percent complete.
She also gave a financial breakdown and says, to date, the contracted project is over $1.6 million with over $130,000 in change orders approved. In addition, she notes they are applying for a tax credit for the project which she hopes they receive $100,000. Keller also says the county has provided the museum over $600,000 for the project and the capital campaign has brought in over $192,000 with an additional $96,000 pledged.

In other action, magistrates approved service contracts for the Trigg County and Todd County Animal Shelters for $8,500 each, which Judge Tribble notes the budget committee voted to increase the annual cost by $1,000 from previous years.

The next fiscal court meeting will be Tuesday morning, August 13, at 8:30.
