Motorists looking to enter Paducah via Exit 4 on I-24/U.S. 60 will be learning a new route for the time being, as entry and exit ramps will be temporarily closed beginning at 6:00 Monday morning.

Following the closure, traffic signals at the ramp ends will be disabled to allow the efficient flow of traffic along U.S. 60 between Coleman Road and James-Sanders Boulevard, however, I-24 traffic through the Exit 4 interchange will remain open.

Entry and exit traffic for the exit will be provided with a marked detour to the I-24/KY 305 Exit 3. Motorists looking to access businesses on the Paducah side of Exit 4 via U.S. 60 East will detour via Charter Oak Drive and Coleman Road, while those seeking businesses located on the west side of Exit 4 will detour via KY 998/Olivet Church Road and New Holt Road to reconnect with U.S. 60 near Kentucky Oaks Mall.

The closure will allow for work to proceed with the construction of the median barrier wall under and around the Exit 4 overpass. Once that is completed, a date will be set for overnight closures of U.S. 60 to allow the paving of the new Double Crossover Diamond.

To reduce traffic, state transportation officials urge commuters to consider alternate routes from the Exit 3 detour such as New Holt Road, Pecan Drive, and James-Sanders Boulevard.

Motorists entering Paducah from Wickliffe via U.S. 51 Ohio River “Cairo” Bridge are advised to use KY 268 and U.S. 62 to connect at I-24 Exit 7.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will supply timely notice ahead of U.S. 60 night closures, however, they will likely begin July 22nd.

Jim Smith Contracting of Grand Rivers, Kentucky is the prime contractor on the over $9 million project. The target completion date is November 20th, however, U.S. 60 and the Exit 4 ramps are required to be reopened by August 12th.
