Sidekick Missions returned to Hopkinsville this week to undertake community volunteer projects in the inner-city neighborhoods and downtown renaissance district.
Sidekick Missions is a group comprised of various rural Methodist churches based in Wisconsin. The group has visited Hopkinsville three times in the past, once in 2009 and twice in 2010. During their past trips, they have completed 26 residential projects and 5 community projects.
This year they have returned with 99 adult and youth volunteers to participate in 9 residential and 2 community projects in the inner-city and downtown hubs. They launched their projects Monday afternoon and worked diligently through Thursday afternoon. Some of the services they perform include house improvements such as handicap ramps, new roofs, and handrail installations.
Mayor Carter Hendricks says the city is very thankful for groups such as these that are willing to come and help revitalize the community. He also encourages residents to volunteer with similar organizations to continue making a difference in the lives of our neighbors.
Chairwoman of the Local Development Corporation Peg Hays wishes to extend gratitude to the volunteers who gave Hopkinsville the unmatched hug of serving the community.
The projects are made possible by funding from the City of Hopkinsville’s annual allocation to the Inner-City Residential Enterprise Zone (ICREZ) Program. The project is spearheaded by Laura Faulkner and LeeAnn Sorrell with Community and Development Services.
