Person Struck By Lightning On MSU Campus Dies

The person reportedly struck by lightning on the campus of Murray State University Sunday evening has died.

The Murray State News reports MSU Director of Communications Shawn Tourney released a statement Tuesday afternoon they were informed that a visitor to the campus passed away as a result of a weather-related incident which occurred Sunday evening. He adds the family was bringing their child to the university to participate in a summer program. Tourney says their thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.

As the News Edge reported Sunday evening, the individual was struck by lightning outside of the White College residence hall and taken to the Murray-Calloway County Hospital where the person died.

The fatal incident occurred when a line of severe storms swept across western Kentucky Sunday afternoon that also spawned confirmed tornadoes that touched down at the Moors Marina and Resort in Marshall County as well as Ballard, Carlisle, McCracken, and Livingston counties.
