Kentucky politics was front and center at the Christian County Chamber annual dinner Monday night.
Kentucky Sports Radio host Matt Jones and Run Switch PR owner Scott Jennings discussed the state Governor’s race, state politics and University of Kentucky Sports before more than 700 chamber members. Jennings noted the race for Governor will be decided in Western Kentucky.
Jones noted Governor Bevin will have an uphill battle due to his own unpopularity.
Jones agreed that Western Kentucky will be a key.
Meanwhile, Jennings also noted that Secretary of State Alison Grimes is in trouble politically.
When asked if he will run against United States Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Matt Jones would not say yes or no. Jennings said he thinks the answer is no.
And Jones took a moment to discuss University of Kentucky sports and the recent achievement of having draft picks go to the NBA, NFL and MLB.
The discussion between Jennings and Jones was moderated by Planters Bank President and CEO Elizabeth McCoy.
During the awards portion of the dinner, Chamber Board Member Frank Giles presented the Young Professional of the Year award to Melissa Spurr. The Bob Kelso Ambassador of the Year award was presented to Nelson Dossett and Rich Maddux received the President’s award. The Chamber paid back membership dues to the youngest chamber member, 8-year-old DJ Bailey, owner of DJ’s Famous Lemonade.
And Chamber Board Chairman Jerod Kaufman passed the gavel to new Chairman Melissa Spurr.
