Woman Charged In Greenville Road Murder Arraigned

A preliminary hearing has been set for next week after a Hopkinsville woman appeared for her arraignment Friday morning in connection to a fatal shooting on Greenville Road Thursday night.

Hopkinsville Police say 19-year-old Anshanique Leavell is charged with murder in the death of 23-year old Amareya Freeman. Leavell was reportedly stopped by police on Russellville Road and East 7th Street shortly after the shooting and arrested. She was also charged with receiving stolen property after police say they found Leavell in possession of a stolen handgun.

Shortly before midnight, police were called to Greenville Road at Mason Street for a report of shots fired and when officers arrived they found 23-year-old Amareya Freeman shot in the chest on the front porch of an apartment. Freeman was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he died.

According to court officials, Leavell was arraigned in Christian District Court Friday morning and entered a guilty plea. She will appear for a preliminary hearing before Judge Jim Adams Wednesday morning, June 12, at 9:00.
