Murder Suspect Competent To Stand Trial In Mother’s Death

A man scheduled to stand trial Monday for allegedly murdering his mother appeared in Christian Circuit Court for a competency hearing Thursday morning.

Jamal Mounts is charged with murder, attempted murder, fourth-degree assault, and other charges in connection to the death of his mother, 65-year old Roxie Mounts, who was found unresponsive in the breezeway after police responded to a domestic disturbance at Mason’s Pointe Apartments on Elm Street in March 2014. Mounts was also reportedly seen by police assaulting 69-year old Marvelyn Spray.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling tells the News Edge Mounts was found competent to stand trial. The trial will begin Monday morning at 8:30 in Circuit Judge Andrew Self’s courtroom.
