Hopkinsville Represented At Historic D-Day Commemoration

A group of Christian County representatives will be a part of history during the next week as they head to Carentan, France for a special celebration.

Christian County Magistrate Darrell Gustafson is among the delegation that will visit Carentan, which was named Hopkinsville’s Sister City.

Gustafson says they will witness a historic event involving the 101st Airborne Division.

He adds one of the original D-Day Paratroopers will help re-enact the event with the 101st.

Gustafson says the delegation will also participate in the National D-Day Ceremony in France.

He notes they will finish up the trip with a tour of Paris, France.

Gustafson will be joined by Hopkinsville City Council member Terry Parker, Champion for Fort Campbell Lana Bastin, Christian County Chamber of Commerce Director of Military Affairs Lindsey Geraci, and Hopkinsville Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Brooke Jung. High school students Ellie Colburn and Ashlyn Parker will also go on the trip. Both of the student’s families hosted Carentan exchange students and will stay with the families of the French students they hosted.
