The Christian County Grand Jury Friday indicted two men in separate cases for assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and other offenses.

38-year old Michael James Hunter of Hopkinsville was indicted for third-degree assault of a police officer, tampering with physical evidence, first-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest and other offenses. Hopkinsville Police say officers responded to a shoplifting complaint at TJ Maxx on the afternoon of April 7 and Hunter resisted arrested and assaulted an officer. During the physical altercation, police say the officer’s camera and glasses were damaged. In addition, Hunter’s glass pipe that was reportedly used for drugs was dropped and shattered.

33-year old Cornelius Fontain Harris of Hopkinsville was indicted for two counts of third-degree assault of a police or probation officer, resisting arrest, second-degree fleeing or evading police and first-degree persistent felony offender. The charges stem from October 2017 when a female officer and a Probation and Parole officer went to the residence of Harris for a home check. While in the home, officers reportedly noticed marijuana and drug paraphernalia in plain view. When Harris was advised he was being detained for the contraband found in the home in violation of the terms of his probation, police say he resisted arrest and fought both officers, causing injury. He then freed himself and fled the scene. According to the indictment, the persistent felony offender charge stems from at least two previous convictions of trafficking cocaine in Daviess County.

The grand jury also indicted two men for flagrant non-support in amounts over $20,000.

The indictment says 37-year old Charles Everette Pryor of Hopkinsville has two minor children and owes more than $24,200 for unpaid child support.

And an indictment says 29-year old Devan Montrell Matlock of Hopkinsville has failed to support his minor child and owes over $23,300 in unpaid child support.
