UPDATE – Fatal I-24 Lyon County Wreck Victim Identified

Kentucky State Police have released the name of the victim killed and three others injured in a crash on Interstate 24 near Kuttawa in Lyon County Friday morning. Post 1 Public Information Officer Trooper Jay Thomas identified the victim as 30-year old Kyle Ellis of Vergennes, Illinois.

Thomas says the wreck occurred around 5:30 a.m in the eastbound lane near the 41-mile marker.

In addition, Thomas says Kyle’s father, a pastor, 49-year old Donald Ellis, also of Vergennes, was transported to Lourdes Hospital in Paducah and then flown to a Nashville hospital. The deceased man’s sister and Donald’s daughter, 28-year old Nicki Meadows of Du Quoin, Illinois, who is also a pastor, was transported by ambulance to Lourdes Hospital, while a family friend, 27-year old Michael Herring of Vergennes, was flown from the scene to a Nashville hospital.

The eastbound lanes of the interstate were shut down for several hours and traffic had to be rerouted.

State police are continuing to investigate the fatal wreck. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Lyon County EMS, Caldwell County EMS, Eddyville Fire Department, Kuttawa Fire Department, Princeton Fire Department, and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet assisted state police at the scene.
