Fred’s Closing More Locations, Cadiz Store To Remain Open

The Memphis, Tennessee based discount-chain Fred’s announced the closure of more stores Thursday.

Officials indicate this is part of an ongoing effort to “rationalize its store footprint”. The latest round of closures comes about five weeks after they announced the closure of nearly 160 stores at the end of this month which included stores in Hopkinsville, Princeton, Murray and a location in Clarksville.

The latest rounds of closures include another 104 stores, with the majority of them in Mississippi, Arkansas, Georgia, and Tennessee. The closures will impact two Kentucky stores in Munfordville and Springfield. The recently announced closing stores are expected to be closed by the end of June.

In April, Fred’s noted they had 557 stores in 13 states. After the closures are completed, the company will have just under 300 remaining locations.
