Authorities say alcohol and speed were factors in a single-vehicle wreck in Calloway County that injured two Murray men.

The Calloway County Sheriff’s Office reports deputies responded to a rollover wreck in the 500 block of Douglas Road around 12:25 Wednesday morning and found the driver, Jake Wrye and his passenger, Austin Brittain, trapped inside the vehicle but alert. Both men had to be extricated from the vehicle by non-mechanical means.

Upon investigation, deputies say it appeared the vehicle went airborne and when it landed back on the roadway Wrye lost control causing the car to run off the roadway hit several trees and two different ditch lines. The car came to rest in the middle of the roadway and deputies say it hard enough that it caused the engine to dislodge from the vehicle and was found in a creek bank over 470 feet away from the car.

Both men were transported by ambulance to the Murray-Calloway County Emergency Room for treatment, with Brittain later flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville for further treatment.

Deputies are continuing to investigate the crash but indicate speed in excess of 120 mph and alcohol were factors in the wreck.
