The Trigg County Board of Education Thursday night approved new salary schedules and some insurance policy quotes for the next school year.
Board members voted unanimously to impose a 1.5% salary increase for certified and classified staff, with no changes to Extended School Services, Professional Development, Administrative Salary Schedule, and Extra-Duty.
In other business, members approved to go into a competitive negotiation for general liability insurance. Superintendent Travis Hamby notes that three quotes they received from Wright Specialty Insurance, EMC Insurance Group, and Liberty Mutual did not meet all the minimum coverage requirements they wanted.
Members also voted to utilize EIG Services for Workers Compensation for the 2019-2020 school year. EIG was the insurance company used for the current school year, with the price going down from nearly $89,000 to around $71,000. Student Accident Insurance for the 2019-2020 school year was awarded to K and K Insurance, with Catastrophic coverage from Zurich American Insurance for nearly $59,000.
Members also approved to install new handrailing on the staircase in the Career and Technical Education building. Stahlers Welding, LLC of Murray was awarded the job for over $5,000 to remove the current railing, replace the handrails, and install with a primer finish.
Also approved was a request for proposal for a Legal Services Request. This comes after current board attorney Howell Hopson recently announced he would not be seeking renewal of its contract that ends on June 30.
The board voted to cancel their next meeting that was scheduled for Thursday night, May 23, which is also the night of graduation for the Class of 2019.
