Hopkinsville Kiwanis Club Presents Annual Awards And Scholarships

The Hopkinsville Kiwanis Club presented some graduating seniors with awards and scholarships during their weekly meeting Thursday afternoon.

The students, which are all members of Key Clubs in each of the four high schools in Christian County, were applauded for the hard work they have done this year to help the club.

Kiwanis member Vicky Rowe presented four seniors with the 2018-2019 Marion Adams Citizenship Award. She says the award is named after the longtime club member who served as the Chair of the Youth Services Committee and oversaw the selection of the recipients for many years.

Rowe presented the award to Christian County High School’s Taylor Blakely, Hopkinsville High School’s Koby Batts, Heritage Christian Academy’s Allie Maternowski, and University Heights Academy’s Michael Hodges. The award recipients are chosen by their school and receive $250 to help further their education.

Kiwanis member Martha Thomas presented $500 scholarships to eight seniors, two from each high school. The students selected had to be Key Club members, hold a B-grade average, receive a recommendation letter from their advisor, and write an essay on what the Key Club meant to them.

Sadie Edwards and Gracie Garrett from Christian County High School, Koby Batts and Riley Fort from Hopkinsville High School, Briannia Quarles and Lilly Strader from University Heights Academy, and Allie Maternowski and Alma Valdez from Heritage Christian Academy were presented scholarships.

Thomas notes the students selected are great representatives of the Kiwanis Club.
