A Caldwell County High School senior has been named the 2019 recipient of the Kentucky Association of Counties (KACo) Presidential Scholarship.

According to KACo officials, Parker Parrent is the recipient of this year’s scholarship, which is awarded each year to a graduating high school student who resides in the county of the current president, who is Caldwell County Magistrate Elbert Bennett. Bennett, who himself graduated from Caldwell County High School in 1967, will present Parrent with the scholarship and a trophy at Caldwell’s Class Night on May 21st.

Recipients of the scholarship must attend a Kentucky college or university and Parrent is planning to attend the University of Kentucky, majoring in psychology. Officials say members of the scholarship selection committee were impressed with Parrent’s scholastic achievements, school involvement, work ethic, and dedication to her family and community. Along with her community involvement, Parrent has maintained a 4.0 GPA while being involved in a variety of school activities like National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America and the academic team. Previously, she was class president as a junior and sophomore. Parrent is the daughter of Jay and Jennifer Parrent.

The KACo Presidential Scholarship is for $2,000 and is renewable for up to four years.

KACo is a non-profit organization, based in Frankfort, whose members include elected county officials throughout the state. Since its creation in 1974, KACo has served as a resource to county governments, providing the highest quality programs and services to counties such as insurance, finance, and legislative solutions.
