Drinking Water Week Declared In Christian County

Colder weather didn’t deter students from Indian Hills Elementary School stopping by the Jeffers Bend Environmental Center Friday morning to learn more about drinking water.

Around sixty children gathered to hear Christian County Judge-Executive Steve Tribble and Hopkinsville Mayor Carter Hendricks declare the first full week of May as Drinking Water Week.

After the declaration, the students were split into groups and took part in various activities hosted by community members. Some of the educational sessions included lessons on water quality, water management, birding, clouds and storms, and more.

Pennyrile Resource Conservation and Development Coordinator Charles Turner says it is important for the students to learn where their drinking water comes from.

Turner adds they will be hosting numerous students from private schools in Christian County on Tuesday, May 7. They will also host a Water Festival on Saturday, May 11.

The Water Festival will be hosted at the Jeffers Bend Environmental Center located at 1200 Vine Street in Hopkinsville. For more information visit their Facebook page by clicking here.
