Hopkinsville Receives Tree City USA Status

The City of Hopkinsville has received Tree City USA status. Beautification Commission Coordinator Heather Braun made the announcement during a presentation Tuesday night at the city council meeting. She said they have been trying for a long time to receive the status and recently was informed the city had met the core standards.

Tree City USA officials say this program is a nationwide movement that provides the framework necessary for communities to manage and expand public trees. To achieve Tree City USA status, communities must meet four core standards, which includes having someone legally responsible for the trees on city property, a tree care ordinance, a community forestry program with an annual budget of at least $2 per capita, and an Arbor Day observance or proclamation.

Beautification Commission Coordinator Heather Braun says she has received Tree City USA flag that will be displayed at the Public Works Department building and signage that will be going up in two locations in Hopkinsville.
