A Hopkinsville man is charged with theft by deception after he reportedly scammed a woman out of money in March.

Hopkinsville Police say on March 25th 41-year-old Jeremy Johnson allegedly took $2,100 from 39-year-old Sonya Hackelton of Franklin as a down payment for a mobile home that he did not own.

Johnson reportedly had Hackelton deposit the down payment into Daniel Bullock’s account and police originally arrested Bullock.

Thursday Johnson came to the police department and provided them with a written statement saying he had scammed Hackelton out of money.
