Sisk Honda Incentives Approved By City Council

Hopkinsville City Council Tuesday night approved establishing a retail incentive district for Sisk Auto Mall to construct a Honda dealership and listened to concerns from two citizens regarding recent dog attacks.

Sisk Auto Mall will invest at least $3.8 million in the development of the Honda dealership at the intersection of Fort Campbell Boulevard and Eagle Way Bypass, which will create approximately 17 jobs. City Clerk Crissy Fletcher read the municipal order which will promote economic development and provide additional revenue to the city through the collection of occupational license fees and ad valorem tax revenue.

During public comments, council heard from Curtiss McColm, a mail carrier, and Thomas James regarding their concerns of dog attacks in the city. The concerns were sparked by a U.S. Postal worker who was seriously injured and flown to a Nashville hospital after she was bitten by a pit bull last week on South Jessup Avenue.

McColm said he wants the city to ban pit bulls or consider other solutions.

James said he had witnessed an attack on McHenry Drive and it was horrific. He believes homeowners and renters should be required to have liability insurance to cover the costs associated with dog attacks. James said this is a serious issue that needs to be addressed.

Councilman Darvin Adams said he would do whatever he can to ensure the safety of the public.

Council also recognized retired Hopkinsville Fire Lieutenant Doc Knight and recently promoted Fire Lieutenants Nicholas Marlowe and Curtis Sauers.

The next city council meeting will be held Tuesday evening, April 16, at 6:00.
