Applications Available For Summer City Internship

Hopkinsville officials have announced applications are now available for the 13th annual Summer in the City Internship Program.

Mayor Carter Hendricks, Fire Chief Freddie Montgomery, and Police Chief Clayton Sumner invite local high school juniors and seniors in Christian County to apply for the program, which will be held June 3rd through June 21st.

Mayor Hendricks says it is a good way to help young people learn about city government.

The internship features $500, a letter of recommendation and valuable career experience in an office setting for those successfully completing the three-week program.

To be eligible for the program, an applicant must be a high school junior or senior in Christian County at the time of selection and be 16-years old by June 1st.

The mayor says those applications are available now.

Officials will select seven interns to participate in this year’s program — one at the Hopkinsville Police Department, two with the Hopkinsville Fire Department, and four at City Hall.

Since the program began, officials say 58 youths have completed the Summer in the City or other city internship programs.
