Fiscal Court Hears KYTC Projects Scheduled For This Year

Officials with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet were at Christian County Fiscal Court Tuesday morning to present project priorities for state roads and bridges for 2019-2020, as well as rural and secondary road program recommendations.

Deputy Transportation Secretary Paul Looney said they are visiting counties as apart of a statewide listening tour to get input from local officials on the county’s most pressing transportation infrastructure needs and to create liability across the state.

Transportation Cabinet District 2 Engineer Brad Houck informed magistrates that repairs and paving on Kentucky 115 from Pembroke to Interstate 24 were not slated for this year. However, Ninth District State Representative Myron Dossett says the information released at fiscal court is incorrect and safety improvements and paving will take place this year as scheduled.

Houck also presented an overview of some winter projects that included several on Pennyrile Parkway, as well as replacing bridges.

In addition, he said resurfacing projects of sections of U.S. 41 and the 68 Bypass are scheduled for this year.

KYTC Hopkinsville Section Engineer Lucas Gilliam presented the rural and secondary road program recommendations and priorities for this year. He said the number one priority is to pave Kentucky 117 this year.

The second and third priorities are paving sections of Kentucky 1348, Poole Mill Road, in Crofton and Kentucky 1843, Vaughn Groves Fairview Road, in Fairview.

Pennyrile Area Development District Community Development Specialist Ashley Johnson presented an update on the museum renovation which she said should be completed by October. Magistrates were also informed the museum is about halfway to their $500,000 fundraising goal.

And the Christian County Conservation District presented fiscal court with a check for $7,500.

The next Christian County Fiscal Court meeting will be Tuesday morning, April 9, at 8:30 at the Christian County Court House.
