January 2019 Unemployment Rates Rose In The Pennyrile

Unemployment rates dropped in two counties in the Pennyrile District, rose in six counties and stayed the same in one county between January 2018 and January 2019, according to the latest data released by the Kentucky Center for Statistics.

January 2019 jobless rates fell in Trigg County to 4.9 percent from 5.2 percent in January 2018, while Muhlenberg County’s unemployment rate fell to 5.3 percent compared to 6.9 percent in January of last year.

Unemployment rates rose in Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins Livingston and Lyon counties. Caldwell County reported the jobless rate rose from 4.6 percent to 5.0 percent during the same time period, while Christian County also reported an unemployment rate of 5.0 percent in January of this year, compared to 4.9 percent in January 2018. Lyon County’s jobless rate rose to 6.1 percent, up from 5.3 percent in January 2018.

Meanwhile, Todd County’s unemployment rate stayed the same at 4.0 percent during the same time period.

Across the state, unemployment rates fell in 37 counties, rose in 72, and stayed the same in 11 counties. Woodford County continued to record the lowest jobless rate in the Commonwealth at 3.1 percent, while Magoffin County continued to record the state’s highest unemployment rate at 14.2 percent.
