Update-Gov. Bevin Declares State Of Emergency In Wake Of Flooding

A statewide emergency was declared Monday in Kentucky in response to widespread flooding across the state.

Governor Matt Bevin tells the News Edge the declaration allows the mobilization of state resources to be utilized as needed.

Bevin adds they are also looking at all of the damage to see if the state can receive further assistance.

The Kentucky Division of Emergency Management activated the State Emergency Operations Center on Friday at a level four.

As of Monday afternoon, the operations center had received 36 county and 11 city state of emergency declarations. The division will keep in daily contact with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers assisting in mitigation efforts in response to record level water releases at Wolf Creek Dam near Jamestown and flood fighting efforts at Smithland.
