101st Airborne Division Soldiers To Return from Afghanistan

 

More than 500 Fort Campbell soldiers will be returning home following a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan.

Fort Campbell officials say the soldiers with “Task Force Destiny,” 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, and “Task Force Lifeliners,” 101st Sustainment Brigade will return in four welcome home ceremonies scheduled to occur Thursday, February 21st, and Thursday, February 28th.

During their deployment, Army officials say the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade provided aviation support to U.S., coalition and Afghan forces throughout the Combined Joint Operations Area-Afghanistan. Task Force Destiny exceeded 50,000 flight hours, transporting more than seven million pounds of cargo and 91,000 passengers, and conducting 1,700 security missions and 256 air assault operations. Additionally, five Soldiers received the Distinguished Flying Cross for their heroism and valor.

These are the first homecoming ceremonies of 2019 for the 101st Sustainment Bridge, who while deployed served as the 101st Resolute Support Sustainment Brigade.

The ceremonies are scheduled Thursday morning, February 21st at 3:40 and 8:30, and Thursday morning, February 28, at 4:25 and 9:15. Fort Campbell officials say all times are subject to change.
