During the city council meeting Tuesday night, Hopkinsville Mayor Carter Hendricks thanked everyone for their outpouring of support for Officer Jeremy Davidson who was shot in the line-of-duty early Monday morning. Davidson, who was shot in the head and arm, was released from Skyline Medical Center in Nashville Tuesday and escorted into Hopkinsville.

Even though he is home and in stable condition, Mayor Hendricks also asked the community to continue to keep Davidson and all of the first responders in our prayers.

City Financial Officer Robert Martin presented the financial report which showed payroll tax collections are down in the city after seven months into the fiscal year. He noted they have year-to-date payroll tax collections of over $10,095,000, which represents a 1.2 percent increase growth compared to this time last year. However, he added when they prepared the budget they projected 2.5 percent growth, meaning the city’s surplus could be affected at the end of the year.

He noted the decrease in payroll tax collections could be attributed to less overtime.

During recognitions, city council recognized retired fire battalion Chief Kirt Williams, and recently promoted fire battalion Chiefs Chip Renshaw and Phillip Ferguson.
