CCPS To Host Public Hearing For Proposed Nickel Tax Increase

The Christian County Board of Education will hold a public hearing concerning a proposed general fund tax increase Thursday evening.

School officials recently indicated they would be able to raise their bonding potential from over $15.7 million to over $54.7 million to be able to build two new academic buildings at Christian County and Hopkinsville High Schools by imposing the approximate nickel tax increase. The proposed increase would raise the tax rate to 48.3 cents per $100 of assessed value for real and personal property.

The meeting for the recallable tax increase will take place at the Board of Education meeting room beginning at 5:30. If the proposed tax increase were to get approved, it can be recalled if enough signatures are received on a petition.
