2017-2018 Audit Approved By Hopkinsville City Council

Hopkinsville City Council approved the 2017-2018 audit report for the city at Tuesday night’s regular meeting. Kerry Fort with York, Neel & Associates, LLP touched on the highlights of the audit which included 133 pages. He noted the audit included the financial statement and internal controls and he was happy to report both received a clean opinion.

Fort noted the most significant issue and pressing item that is trickling down from the state is the city’s pension liability, which he added the total adjustment to the fund balance this past year was nearly $11 million.

Mayor Carter Hendricks stated the pension liability is something the audit has continued to point out is a growing concern and it’s something they don’t have any control over because it’s a bill from the state the City of Hopkinsville is required to pay.

In other business, council approved Tom Johnson as presiding officer in the mayor’s absence.

During recognitions, Hopkinsville Police Officer Zachary Hardy, who graduated last week from the police training academy at Eastern Kentucky University, was officially sworn-in by Mayor Hendricks.

Distinguished Young Women of Christian County

Council members also recognized the Distinguished Young Women of Christian County, including Hopkinsville High School Senior Riley Fort who last month won at the state level and will be going to Mobile, Alabama in June where she will participate in Distinguished Young Women of America. Mayor Hendricks also proclaimed Tuesday, February 5, as Riley Fort Day in Hopkinsville.
