Motorists Need To Be Aware Black Ice Possible Overnight

Motorists need to be aware black ice could develop on roadways across western Kentucky overnight Wednesday.

According to a special weather statement from the National Weather Service in Paducah, as the rain moves east across the region, some very light snow flurries or brief sleet and freezing drizzle may occur over parts of western Kentucky, generally east of Land Between the Lakes. Meteorologists indicate any light wintry mix should last less than two hours at any one location. Little to no accumulation is expected.

The forecast indicates temperatures will still be at or above freezing by the time most of the measurable rainfall moves out of the area. This rain will also keep road surfaces above freezing for several hours.

If you are planning to travel in western Kentucky, meteorologists say black ice may develop between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. in counties west of LBL on roads that remain wet, and after 11 p.m in counties east of the lakes.

As temperatures dip down into the 20s overnight, any roads still wet will likely develop a layer of black ice.

Please use caution while driving overnight Wednesday and for your morning commute Thursday and allow extra time to reach your destination.
