City Of Cadiz Receives Clean Audit Report

During the first meeting of the new year, Cadiz City Council members heard the audit report for 2018, discussed the monthly junk collection, and approved a donation to be given to the Trigg County Senior Citizen Center.

Debbie Fuller from Calhoun and Company presented the audit report. Fuller told members the city received a clean audit with no findings.

In other business, council members discussed the next step for the monthly junk collection. During the final three months of last year, members voted to allow WCA to pick up the junk items instead of city public work employees. City Clerk Brian Ahart says the October and November bills for pick up both averaged to be around $1,750 with a whole years collection to cost the city over $20,000.

Councilwoman Susan Bryant says that is too expensive for the city and they need to look into other options.

After several minutes of discussion, members tabled the issue to be brought up again during the February meeting to give Public Works Director Kerry Fowler enough time to talk to his employees about the potential changes.

Council members also unanimously voted to give the Trigg County Senior Citizens Center a $5,000 donation. The donation will go to ensure the center stay open under normal operation after nearly $50,000 in budget cuts. The check will be presented to Center Director Cissy Lawernce Friday morning at 8:00 inside Cadiz City Hall.

Council member Frankie Phillips presided over the meeting because Mayor Todd King was absent due to a death in the family.

The next Cadiz City Council meeting is scheduled to take place Tuesday evening, February 5 at 6:00 at city hall.
