Autopsy Shows Hopkinsville Teen Died Of Drowning

The Hopkins County Coroner has released the results of an autopsy conducted on a Hopkinsville teen who died in Madisonville Thanksgiving weekend. Coroner Dennis Mayfield says the autopsy report determined the cause of 13-year old Malik Stafford’s death was drowning, and the manner of death is undetermined.

Around 10:00 the night of November 23, Madisonville Police and emergency personnel responded to a medical emergency complaint in the area of the Cross Creek Apartment Complex where they found Stafford in a creek and began life-saving measures. He was transported to the emergency room at Baptist Health where he died a short time later. Media reported Stafford was in Madisonville celebrating Thanksgiving with family members at the apartment complex and had gone outside to play prior to him being found unresponsive in the creek.

Stafford was reportedly a student and a member of the football team at Hopkinsville Middle School.
