101st Airborne Hosts Farewell Ceremony For Augmentees

Governor Matt Bevin will join state and federal military officials for a special farewell ceremony for Kentucky National Guard Augmentees at Fort Campbell Friday.

Fort Campbell Public Affairs Officer Major Martin Meiners says in a release 38 Kentucky National Guardsmen Louisville-based 101st Main Command Post-Operational Detachment augmented the 101st Airborne Division soldiers during the train-up period and deployment in Afghanistan over the past year. In addition to overseeing the train, advise and assist mission and supporting the Afghan National Defense Security Forces, Major Meiners says the Screaming Eagles synchronized the U.S. counterterrorism operations, keeping America safe and setting the conditions for a political and peaceful settlement to the Afghanistan conflict.

Major General Andrew Poppas, 101st Airborne Division commanding general, says in a release they are thankful for the diverse and flexible skills today’s citizen soldiers provide to not only the division at Fort Campbell but the nation, as it confronts strategic and tactical challenges in Afghanistan and beyond.

The 101st Airborne Farewell Ceremony will be held for Kentucky National Guard Augmentees at 11:30 Friday morning at Division Headquarters at 2700 Indiana Avenue.
