Trigg School Board Looking To Address Safety Issues

The Trigg County Board of Education is looking into ways to make the vocational building behind the high school ADA accessible and adding safety features to keep children safe on the elementary school playground.

During Thursday evening’s meeting, board members learned that the vocational building could see some renovations while the primary and intermediate school project is being completed. Justin McElfresh from Sherman Carter Barnhart says they are looking into three projects to make the building safer and more accessible.

McElfresh adds the new elevator could be more expensive than a traditional elevator installation.

Superintendent Travis Hamby says they have also been discussing what they can do to address safety concerns brought up by parents to put a barrier between the playground and the primary school car pick-up lane.

Bollards are typically seen in front of grocery stores and help to prevent cars from traveling into the building. The placement of the bollards would prevent any vehicles from traveling from the car pick-up road onto the playground.
