Tuesday’s general election in Trigg County featured an unusual number of write-in candidates, including a constable’s race.

John Oliver received 1,004 votes in the judge-executive’s race, good for third place but his total was the most ever received by a candidate in a contested Trigg County political race.

In the Third District constable race, John Oliphant received 124 votes to 35 for Jon Goodwin.

In District Four, Kerry Fowler received four write-in votes to win that race.

Workers in County Clerk Carmen Finley’s office spent nearly three hours counting the absentee votes after the final precinct results were read at the Trigg County Justice Center. Every vote had to be counted and verified as a legitimate write-in vote.

In Kentucky, a write-in candidate must file a declaration of intent with the Kentucky Secretary of State by the fourth Friday in October before the general election.
