Mother And Child Escape Injuries After Shots Fired At Home

Authorities are investigating shots fired into a home occupied by a mother and her child on East 21st Street Wednesday night.

Hopkinsville Police responded to the area of Hazel Street shortly before 11:00 p.m. where witnesses stated they heard gunshots from the area of Hancock Street. While en route to the area, officers were dispatched to another call from a home in the 300 block of East 21st Street where a woman said their residence had been hit by gunfire. Upon arrival, police say the homeowner showed them where a bullet had entered the exterior wall in back of the residence and traveled through the of the master bedroom and hit the closet. The woman stated she was lying in her bed with her juvenile daughter when the bullet traveled through the wall. Police indicate the victims were not injured in the shooting.

A witness outside the home reportedly told officers she heard about four shots fired and ran inside her home and then heard four more shots fired.

The report says officers collected four shell casings as evidence in the 400 block of Hancock Street.
