Woman Charged With Assaulting Officer During Pursuit

A woman who was injured in a crash after leading police on a pursuit in Hopkinsville Saturday afternoon is facing multiple charges, including assaulting an officer.

Police report the pursuit began around 3:30 p.m. when an officer tried to make a traffic stop on a vehicle being driven on the wrong side of Alumni Avenue with expired tags. Police say the driver 19-year old Aliciana Johnson of Hopkinsville didn’t pull over and fled until she intentionally stopped the car, backed into a patrol cruiser and then sped off again. During the pursuit, police say Johnson hit a utility pole on East 21st Street and fled to her residence on Alumni Avenue where she stopped and hit a chain link fence. Johnson was apprehended and taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. Police indicate the officer whose cruiser was hit denied medical attention but complained of back pain.

Johnson was cited to court for several violations and criminal offenses, including first-degree fleeing or evading police, third-degree assault of a police officer, and second-degree assault of a service animal. She is lodged in the Christian County Jail.
