A vehicle and foot pursuit in Hopkinsville Wednesday night led to the arrest of a 24-year old man on several charges, including trafficking marijuana.

According to police, an officer tried to make a traffic stop after he saw Markail Bennett driving northbound in the southbound lane on South Campbell Street. Bennett then turned onto East 1st Street and was driving in the middle of the road. When the officer activated his lights and siren Bennett turned onto South Clay Street and continued driving until he reached Howell Street where he jumped out of the vehicle toting a bag and ran behind several houses. Bennett was apprehended in a field in the area. Police say the bag Bennett was carrying when he ran was found on a roof and contained several ounces of marijuana, along with prescription and several other pills.

Bennett was booked into the Christian County Jail charged with trafficking marijuana less than 8 ounces, DUI, fleeing or evading police on foot and in a motor vehicle, tampering with physical evidence, and possessing a legend drug.
