UPDATE: More Info Released About Soldier Shot And Killed

Fort Campbell officials have released more information regarding the female soldier shot and killed during an alleged argument with her estranged husband Sunday night.

A release says Spc. Brittney Niecol Silvers, of Jacksonville, Florida was an automated logistical specialist in the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). She joined the Army in 2011 and completed training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and Fort Lee, Virginia. She served for several years at Fort Hood, Texas and arrived at Fort Campbell in 2016.

Army officials say Silvers died around 10:00 Sunday night as the result of an off-duty shooting incident on post.

The Leaf-Chronicle reported Tuesday they had obtained an affidavit that reveals Brittany Silvers and a male friend were at her apartment on Contreras Court when a man arrived and started banging on the door. A witness said he heard Silvers arguing with the man, and then heard a gunshot. A neighbor told authorities he saw the man fire a shot into the back of the victim’s head. Silvers’ male friend was also reportedly shot in the leg during a struggle with the suspect inside the apartment.

The court paperwork indicates the suspect is the victim’s estranged husband, V. Silvers, and that the two were in the middle of divorce proceedings and she had obtained a restraining order against him on October 9 due to a prior incident involving a weapon. A public records search by the newspaper indicates the husband’s name is Victor Silvers.

The affidavit further states Victor Silvers has confessed to the crime, and that a judge has agreed that authorities have probable cause to believe the suspect committed multiple crimes, including first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.

Fort Campbell officials say Spc. Brittany Silvers has received numerous awards and decorations and was posthumously promoted to Sergeant and received the Army Commendation Award.

101st Combat Aviation Brigade Commander Lt. Col. Cayton Johnson says they have lost an incredibly valued member of the Destiny Team, and they will continue to pray for her family and friends during this difficult time.

The fatal shooting is under investigation by U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command and the FBI Louisville Division.
